About WISE-RTD
The WISE-RTD Web Portal is initially developed by the EC-funded project Harmoni-CA (www.harmoni-CA.info) under supervision of both DG-Research and DG-Environment of the European Commission. It has been further extended by the EC-funded project SPI-Water (www.spi-water.eu).
The WISE-RTD Web Portal aims to support the implementation of the European Water Frame Work Directive with information and experiences of new and exisisting ICT-tools and to define research issues for gaps in the existing knowledge.
It is a true portal meaning that it intelligently forwards the user to information available at any website or other resource of information on subjects related to the European Water Frame Work Directive.
The user may select a usergroup to guide him or her to the available information resources. For instance, a water manager is guided by means of the main tasks to be completed according to the phases of the WFD. A stakeholder may select on the basis of stakeholder groups and a scientist is forwarded by specialistic subjects on technologies and modeling.
The information is stored and linked on the basis of three major information types:
1 - guidances
2 - tools
3 - experiences
1 Guidances are documents e.g. as provided by the EC working group CIS, by national or international organisations supporting the WFD implementation, and by research projects as Harmoni-CA and the related projects in the CatchMod cluster. Synthesis reports are available on different subjects related to the use of tools in support of the WFD implementation.
2 Tools are ment to support the implementation and are (ICT) tools for information, computation, transfers and presentation tools as well as results of projects on harmonisation, linking (OPEN-MI), support of modeling procedures, etc.
3 Experiences show the practice of the implementation and come from the Pilot River Basins of the CIS working groups in which different aspects of the implementation have been tested on the basis of the CIS guidances and more. Other experiences are from other river basins, research test-sites and any other activity related to the practice of the WFD implementation supported by tools.
