OPTIMA - Water resources optimisation report for the Zarqa River, Jordan
Water in Jordan is considered a key resource and is a detrimental factor of economic growth, social development and political stability. The scarcity of water in Jordan is at critical level. The most affected area by water scarcity is the Zarqa River basin because of its limited water resources and due to the fact that about 50% of population is dwelling and most of the industrial and other economical activities are concentrated in the basin.
The basin has been selected as a case study within OPTIMA project in order to develop a set of objectives, criteria and constraints in close cooperation with stakeholders. The complexity of resources system is evaluated in the optimization process and in post optimization of discrete multi- criteria analysis. In all these steps, stakeholder have been involved and consulted at different stages of the project. This report is divided into 3 parts. Part 1 presents a summary of the baseline scenario and description of WRM topology and nodal points. Part 2 explains the optimization process and presents and discusses the optimization results. Part 3 select and evaluate a set of alternatives that lead to high achievement level using DMC.
