OPTIMA - Water resources optimisation report for the Lower Litani basin, Lebanon
This report presents the results of the water resources optimization conducted for the
Lower Litani River Basin. The overall aim of the project is to develop, test, and critically evaluate an innovative approach to water resources management in the Mediterranean region.
The Litani River is the longest and largest river in Lebanon. The characteristics of the Litani Lower basin were input in a topology model using a Water Resource Model (WRM), which is used to assess the efficiency of the baseline model scenario. The involvement of the various stakeholders and their contribution allowed the identification of the main key issues and constraints for the optimization process for the different scenarios of the Litani Lower Basin. Different optimization scenarios were tested including instruments and constraints and a set of feasible solutions were derived. The report summarizes the main findings of the optimization runs. This report is sub-divided in 3 distinct sections. Section 2 presents a summary of the baseline scenario. Section 3 presents the optimization scenario and discusses the optimization results. Section 4 presents the next steps.
