OPTIMA - Water resources optimisation report for the Gediz River, Turkey
This report presents the results of the water resources optimization conducted for the
Gediz basin. The overall aim of the project is to develop, test, and critically evaluate an innovative approach to water resources management in the Mediterranean region.
The WaterWare Model (WRM) is employed to construct baseline scenarios of the existing situation in the Gediz Basin and to set up the basis for the optimization analyses covered in this report.
The involvement of the various stakeholders and their contribution allowed the identification of the main key issues and constraints for the optimization process for the different scenarios of the Gediz Basin. Different optimization scenarios were tested including instruments and constraints and a set of feasible solutions were derived. An analysis of the feasible scenarios allows determining the best solution in terms of investments to be realized under the specified constraints. For the Gediz basin investments for education and training of water users appear to have the priority among other instruments considered. Channel lining and irrigation water saving technologies are the most effective in particular irrigation districts. More details on the optimization scenarios and runs are presented in the report.
