WATERCATOX - Waste Water Treatment by Catalytic Oxidation Contactor
Start date of the project:
30/12/2003
End date of the project:
31/03/2005
The project attempted to solve problems related to waste water treatment and re-use in chemical, pharmaceutical and other industry. The technological objective was to develop a new, continuous and highly cost-efficient wet air oxidation process based on an oxidation contactor. Air and wastewater will be supplied to either side of a porous catalytic contactor. Oxidation of the waste will take place in the three-phase contact area created by the contactor. Two on-site test units were constructed and tested with a number of industrial effluents in several locations. A plan for exploitation of the results including re-use of water was prepared. Targeted goals: The new process shall reduce the chemical oxygen demand and the total organic carbon of the chosen effluents by 80% under less than 10 bar and 150 C.
