SWURVE - Uncertainty, Risk and Vulnerability on hydropower dam operations in the Alps, Switserland
This SWURVE case study on hydropower dam operations was carried out for a reservoir in the Alps (Mauvoisin, Switserland). Aspects of uncertainty and risk studied were:
- Modifications of flow-duration curves, hydrologic regime and hydroelectric production
- Modification of flood risk downstream (spillway activating and/or dam overtopping).
Inflow modelling took into account the temperature and snowmelt contribution. Suitable meteorological, discharge and hydropower operational data were available, as was a previous study for the catchment, using probable maximum floods (PMF) evaluated using a deterministic hydrological model coupled with a meteorological model.
