TBT CLEAN - Technologies for sustainable removal of tributyltincontamination from sediments and surface water

The document is the screening of literature carried out within the framework of the TBT-Clean- project. The screening consists in an overview of technologies that exist nowadays for sustainable removal of tributyltincontamination from sediments and surface water. This literature review first gives an overview of the main physical, chemical and ecotoxicological properties of tributyltin (TBT), so that the fate and degradation of this chemical can be understood. A description is given of the use of TBT, the alternatives that are available nowadays, and the conventions and legislation related to TBT. The review also discusses the possible effects of dredging of TBTcontaminated sludge on TBT-release. The literature review focuses on treatment technologies for removal of TBT from sediment and water.
