
BALTCOAST - Rehabilitation of the Baltic coastal lagoon habitat complex
The overall goal of the project is to contribute significantly to a favourable conservation status of the Baltic CL and the surrounding habitats as well as the species characteristic to this habitat complex in Denmark, Germany and Estonia; involve best practice from Sweden and build up population connectivity for Calidris alpina schinzii, Recurvirostra avosetta and Philomachus pugnax between Estonia, Sweden, Denmark and Germany; restore coastal wading bird habitat in Lithuania; work out best management guidelines for rehabilitation of CL habitat complex for Baltic Sea region; create international network among wader experts from Baltic Sea region (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Germany). The project also focuses on prevention of extinction of Calidris alpina schinzii and Philomachus pugnax in Baltic Sea coast of Denmark and in Estonia as well as in whole Baltic Sea region; restoration of meta-population structure of Calidris alpina schinzii to secure the long-term viability of this species; improvement and restoration of breeding and feeding ground for other waders and amphibians; restoration of species structure of CL avifauna; raising public awareness on the values and threats of the CL habitat complex; education and involvement of local inhabitants in the management activities of the habitat complex.
