LV coastal habitats - Protection and management of coastal habitats in Latvia
The basic framework for sustainable management of coastal protection belt of the Baltic Sea in Latvia has been created. Project information on habitat mapping and functional zoning is widely used for the planning of nature conservation measures and drawing up and evaluation of the territorial plans of the coastal municipalities. Coastal municipalities & landowners learned about sustainable coastal management. Local stakeholders are equipped to continue conservation initiatives after the end the project. The project also drew up comprehensive digital maps of habitats and functional zoning for the protection measures in the costal zone of Latvia. All maps are available to interested stakeholders via the project website & on request. These maps are used by government bodies as integrating conservation into management planning of 24 municipalities. Maps are also a useful tool for elaboration of Natura2000 network in Latvia. Dissemination activities included: 2 films, 12 seminars, 7 booklets, 20 leaflets and working with newspapers and broadcast media.
