HarmoniRIB - Mitigation of the groundwater depletion hazard under data uncertainty, as well as the socio-economic impacts of different demand scenarios in the the Geropotamou basin, Greece
The Messara Valley located in Geropotamou basin is threatened with desertification due to uncontrolled use. The main threatened water bodies in the Geropotamou basin are the aquiferous zone which is getting depleted and the stream which becomes drier each year. The depletion of the aquifer has reduced water availability as groundwater is a major resource for irrigation. Currently these water bodies are not in good status and the prolongation of the current situation will surely lead to a worse condition. The current fear of the community is desertification. The problem of excessive water abstractions is multifold. (Focus: mitigation of the groundwater depletion hazard under data uncertainty, as well as the socio-economic impacts of different demand scenarios.)
