MEDIS aimed to give assistance in solving the problems of availability/scarcity of water in the Mediterranean, especially on the islands. Solutions were found following a holistic, interdisciplinary approach, involving scientists/experts and stakeholders from the area. The project integrated altered hydrological conditions, agricultural practices and tourism, as well as the major water consumers, socio-economic demands and conditions. The overall goal of the project was to define recommendations for equitable and sustainable water management on Mediterranean islands. Case studies were carried out on Corsica, Crete, Cyprus, Mallorca and Sicily.
