Humedales Sostenibles - Integrated management of agriculture in the surrondings of community importance wetlands
The project aimed to apply Conservation Agriculture techniques to the crops located in the catchment areas of the various Andalusian wetlands in order to Reduce soil losses caused by erosion and increase the primary and secondary biological productivity of wetlands due to water transparency. This objective was reached also by the seeking an active participation of farmers in the catchment areas of these wetlands through: Establishment of demonstration plots; Training and publication of optimum soil management and sustainable production practices; Assistance with the implementation of these practices; and agronomic and environmental monitoring. Furthermore, the project applied GIS systems to classify existing data and characterise the catchment areas of the endorreic complexes included in the project. This information was subsequently combined with the aid of a decision-making tool to enable optimisation of the zones and types of agricultural management.
