IWAPIL - Innovative Wastewater Treatment Applications for Isolated Locations
Start date of the project:
01/05/2004
End date of the project:
30/09/2006
Funding program:
FP6
Contract Code:
508144
The aim of the project IWAPIL was to develop and test an innovative membrane bioreactor (MBR) intended for the production of drinking water in remote communities, mountain hotels, campsites, etc. The tool was based on a newly developed membrane and membrane module and allows to overcome most of the problems that make nowadays MBRs impracticable for decentralised uses, where no skilled operators can be present. The innovative characteristics of the mentioned new membrane and membrane module may be used to achieve a low-maintenance costs and extremely efficient wastewater treatment system.
