INCOME - Improved management of contaminated aquifers by integration of source tracking, monitoring tools and decision strategies
The initial priority of the project is to determine the actual conditions and assess the status of alluvial aquifers in the Ljubljana region. This in order to inform the development and application of advanced tools and field techniques to identify pollution sources, delimit deteriorated areas and design an appropriate programme of activities and remedial measures for improving the aquifers’ status. This will be done through the collection of spatial information (GIS) on aquifer characteristics (geology, hydrology), pollution sources and the status of groundwater quality; establishment of an advanced conceptual model and integrated database system of ground water flow, risk assessment in the impact zones and probability assessment of accidental pollution; and production of a comprehensive monitoring network proposal for groundwater quality.
