CLIME - The impact of long-term changes in the weather on the dynamics of lakes
In this project limnologists are analysing long-term data from a range of lakes. Particular attention is being paid to the factors influencing the seasonal and interannual variation in algal abundance, community structure and the timing of phytoplankton growth.
Long-term records of phytoplankton are being related to local changes in the catchment and regional changes in the weather. In addition, changes in overall community structure, expressed as the proportional contribution of different algal groups, are being analysed for their linkage to identifiable weather patterns.
