HarmoniRIB - Harmonised Techniques and Representative River Basin Data for Assessment and Use of Uncertainty Information in IWM
The preparation of integrated water management plans for the WFD requires a large number of decisions by operational agencies in Europe. A decision maker has to make decisions based on the available information. In most cases this information is deficient, incomplete and/or uncertain. How should this affect the decision-making?
The main objective of the project HarmoniRiB was to develop methodologies to quantify uncertainty and to assess the propagation of uncertainty from the raw data to concise management information and decision-making. It developed an uncertainty analysis toolkit, comprising methodologies and tools for identifying, assessing and quantifying uncertainty and risk in decision making. Furthermore, a network of representative river basins with datasets comprising information on uncertainty was created and made publicly available. The suitability of the methodologies, the tools and the datasets was demonstrated through a number of integrated case studies.
