Reservwet - Good Practice Guide for Planning and Management of Small Multiple Objective Water Reservoirs in the Mediterranean Region
The objective of this guide is to provide general guidance for competent authorities and reservoir managers, concerning the environmentally friendly planning and management of new reservoirs and the enhancement of wetland functions of existing reservoirs, through simple and low cost measures that do not conflict the main roles of the reservoirs. The guide presents the main project objectives, the method used by the project to assess wetland functions and the associated Decision Support Tool (DST), developed to improve the capacity of local authorities for efficient planning of multiple objective small water reservoirs. The last part of the guide provides practical solutions for planning simple constructions such as rafts and earth islands, to enhance wetland habitats inside, in the margins or near the water reservoir sites. Specific case studies, from the five project sites, are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed interventions.
