AQUA-PLANN PROJECT - Gestion Integrada de los Recursos Hidricos y su Aplicacion en el Planeamiento Local del L.I.C. Abegondo - CECEBRE

The general objective of the project is to preserve and protect the current and future ecological status of the hydrographic basins of Rivers Mero and Barces and of the SCI “Embalse Abegondo-Cecebre” through the implementation of an integrated approach based on the application of adequate governance, technologies, and public participation processes at basin level. This is being done through: (i) putting in place adequate procedures for stakeholder involvement; (ii) harmonising legislation between the local/municipal level and the regional, national and European levels; (iii) demonstrative actions for the implementation of the WFD; (iv) promoting awareness-raising among stakeholders. The project is also preparing scientific and technical studies on the current state of the river basin, including also maps and GIS tools aimed at helping local planners to comply with the WFD. In addition, an automatic network for spills control and evaluation of water quality in all rivers will be installed and surface water and groundwater quality will be improved.
