The project's objectives are to promote the sustainable management of the surface waters and groundwater in the Strymonas River basin that suffers from loss of water, saltwater intrusion and diffuse pollution. The document describes the results of the establishment of a water Quality and Hydrological regime Monitoring Network in Strymonas Basin, the main objective of which is to provide for adequate information for the assessment of the pressure that imported pollution and intensive agriculture put on its surface water. The document examines the surface water level and groundwater monitoring networks as well as the meteorological station network.
