NeWater - Environmental Flows Network
Environmental flows refers to water provided within a river, wetland or coastal zone to maintain ecosystems and the benefits they provide for people and the environment. A useful way of understanding environmental flows is thinking of it as the 'ecological water demand', in just the same way as there is agricultural or industrial water demand. This report describes the establishment of a network of experts to support application of methods of balancing water management for quantity, quality and ecosystems. A number of organisations are developing the Environmental Flows Network, which connects water managers, NGOs, local communities, governmental and intergovernmental agencies, and scientists and researchers that are interested in sharing knowledge on environmental flows.
