The general objective of this project was to identify methods whereby agriculture (mainly olive growing) in the Doñaña area can be carried out with greater consideration for the local environment (especially the Guadiamar River).
Specific objectives:
- Strengthening the active participation of farmers in adopting environmentally-friendly agronomic techniques;
- Improving the sustainability of woodland farms through efficient management of land and water resources;
- Reducing the contamination of surface and underground water by pollutants coming from agricultural soils.
- To increase social participation in the conservation of singular sites, Natura 2000.
The results achieved: 33 pilot farms adopting sustainable agronomic techniques; an olive growers forum in operation; reduction in levels of suspended matter, fertilisers and biocides in runoff water and reduction in erosion; improved conservation of the Guadiamar River and the National Park. The data obtained during three agricultural cycles was recorded in a georeferenced database, enabling inclusion of data in a GIS developed by the project.
