Description of the Sebou basin (Morocco) following the WFD Article 5

The Sebou basin is the site of the most dynamic agricultural and industrial activities of Morocco, which has created high demographic growth and increasing pressure on surface and underground water resources. In this context the experience of EU countries in the implementation of European Water Framework Directive tools may promote significant change. The implementation of the first step of the WFD: basin characterisation (pressure and status characterisation, identification of main water management issues, definitions of environmental objectives) is the object of this study. The study is instrumental in matching solutions from EU countries with water management needs in the Sebou basin. Part I gives an extended executive summary in English (p. 7-22).
