ForestForWater - Demonstration of opportunities on forest land to support the implementation of the Water Framework Directive
The objective of the project is to demonstrate how forestlands and forestry in Europe could contribute to the implementation of the WFD and assist in the achievement of the objectives it sets (in 3 countries
Sweden, France and the UK). It deals with the water and forestry interrelations at five levels, i.e. European level, national level, river basin district level, watershed level and local watershed level. Its activities include: comparative analysis of forestry practices in different countries; contribution to the handbook on river basin management planning; models of public participation adapted to different spatial scales; examples of the forestland management awarded for good ecological status; examples of monitoring efforts; examination of relations between actions on forestland and the quality of groundwater and surface water and; and demonstration of perspective forest area protection methodology.
