REGROWTH - Control of bacterial regrowth in water supply distribution systems in watershort European and Mediterranean countries
Start date of the project:
01/11/1997
End date of the project:
30/04/2001
Funding program:
FP5
Contract Code:
IC18-CT-1997-00136
The objectives of this project were as follows: a) to examine the bacterial changes which occur during water distribution in both continuous and intermittent systems; b) to uncover the mechanisms involved in the changes; c) to look at methods for controlling any adverse changes. Distribution systems were selected for study in three Eastern Mediterranean countries (Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine) which all had intermittent water supplies, and in two European countries (Portugal and UK) which had continuous water supplies. Each of these distribution systems was intensively sampled for up to two years, to determine any patterns in water quality, especially in bacterial concentration.
