BaltActHaz - Baltic actions for reduction of pollution of the Baltic Sea from priority hazardous substances
The project's main aim is to support the Baltic countries in taking joint action towards implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD), the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Directive, the Marine Directive (MD) and the new HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan with regard to reduction of hazardous substances. This is being done through: the investigation of current levels of priority substances in industrial processes, wastewater, sewage water, surface water and sediments; the proposition of relevant monitoring measures for the future; capacity building amongst stakeholders regarding the REACH regulation, also by working directly with certain enterprises to help them improve their management of chemicals. It will further facilitate the network of Baltic stakeholders on new legislative developments and trans-boundary cooperation with international experts.
