Analysis of the Tisza River Basin - Art. 5 report -3. Characterisation of surface water bodies in the Tisza River Basin -3.8. Assessment of impacts in the Tisza River Basin -
- 3.8.3. Heavy metals in the Tisza River Basin
The spatial-temporal evolution of the heavy metals concentrations on the Tisza River from 2001 to 2003 is outlined in this section. Regarding heavy metals Cu, Pb and Cd exceed the II-nd class and are considered toxic substances, Pb and Cd being very toxic for water resources, especially for the biota. High heavy metals concentrations show the pollution of the area with heavy metals (mining area) only in the monitoring sites of the Upper Tisza. The Tisza River flowing from Ukraine at entrance in Romania has altered chemical characteristics through constantly exceeding the target values for Pb, Cd and Cu. (4.8.3. Heavy metals - p.73)
