- 3.6. Heavily modified surface waters in the Danube River Basin District
'Heavily modified water body' means a body of surface water which as a result of physical alterations by human activity is substantially changed in character, as designated by the Member State in accordance with the provisions of Annex II.? Art. 2(9) WFD. This chapter provides an overview of selected provisionally identified heavily modified waters, which meet basin-wide agreed criteria. All other heavily modified water bodies (HMWB) are dealt with in the National reports of the countries (Part B). The content of this chapter is based on data delivered by Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Bulgaria, and Romania.
