- 3.1 Disposal of untreated domestic wastewater in the Litani basin, Lebanon
The main population centers in the upper Litani basin fall within the caza of Baalbek, Zahleh, and West Bekaa. Raw, untreated wastewater from various municipalities and industries within these cazas is discharged into wadis and other tributaries to the Litani River. While 50 percent of the population is connected to sewer systems, there is only one completed wastewater treatment plant in the upper basin – in Baalbek – and it is not
