- 1.1 Geographical location of the Litani basin, Lebanon
The Litani River is the longest and largest river in Lebanon, with a length of 170 kilometers (km) and an estimated average annual discharge rate of 770 million cubic meters. This perennial river originates from Al-Oleik spring in Hosh Barada in the Bekaa Valley, and flows southward parallel to Mount Lebanon. It deviates to the west in a deep V-shaped valley southwest of Marjaayoun to finally discharge into the Mediterranean
